Selon les Evangiles, Ponce Pilate aurait donné aux Juifs le choix entre la libération de Jésus et celle d’un «brigand» nommé Barabbas. Ils auraient alors crié : «Barabbas !» Au XXe siècle, des exégètes ont relevé que les auteurs des textes évangéliques maîtrisaient imparfaitement l’araméen, langue que parlait Jésus. Or, en araméen, les mots bar abbas signifient «fils du père». Nul autre que Jésus ne pouvait porter un tel surnom.
Les premiers rédacteurs avaient commis l’une des erreurs de traduction les plus formidables de l’Histoire : les Juifs avaient bien demandé la libération de Jésus. Toute l’histoire terrestre du Crucifié était donc à revoir. C’est l’objet de ces pages, abondamment étayées par des notes historiques.
